Portable Appliance Testing.
This qualification is a recommendation for Technicians and others within premises who have responsibility for testing electrical equipment.
The course is delivered as a one day session for electricians or those already carrying out testing.
The duration of the course is 8 hours for electricians (16 hours for those with no, or limited, experience) and the delivery of the course may be tailored to meet the clients' requirements.
For newcomers to PAT the course is over two days, to allow for the fundamental electrical principles to be understood.
Aimed at all those currently involved in, or wish to be involved in the testing of portable equipment, the course is designed to familiarise them with the Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Practical methods of equipment testing are carried out during the course.
Candidates are required to sit a one hundred minute, 50 item multi-choice, open book examination after the course.
There is also a practical assessment of testing procedures and certification during the course.
The course and assessment is based upon the latest edition of the Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Costs include the examination entry fees.
