NVQ 3 100/4720/7SEB covers the necessary site competences for approval with the Joint Industry Board (JIB)

for becoming graded as an Approved Electrician.


  1. Normally three examples of each activity need to be covered and witnessed on site. One example must be via a

  2. qualified NVQ assessor.

  3. The assessment process depends upon the individual but is expected to be between six and nine months.


There are some pre-prepared questions to be answered and a record kept via a candidate logbook.


The site assessed work consists of:

  2. SET 3/002 Provide Technical and Functional Information to Relevant People

  3. SET 3/004 Maintain a Healthy and Safe Working Environment

  4. SET 3/011 Diagnose and Correct Faults in Electrotechnical Systems & Equipment

  5. SET 3/012 Prepare to Install Electrical Wiring Systems, Wiring Enclosures and Equipment

  6. SET 3/013 Install Electrical Wiring Systems, Wiring Enclosures and Equipment

  7. SET 3/014 Connect Wiring Systems and Equipment using Safe and Approved Methods

  8. SET 3/015 Inspect, Test and Commission and Electrical Installation
