This qualification is a recommended method of progressing towards registration as a Domestic Electrical Installer
under 'Part P' requirements.


  1. This course is aimed at those people who are already carrying out electrical work in dwellings
    and need a formal qualification.

  2. The duration of the course is one evening (6pm-9pm) per week for 13 weeks with continuous assessment in practical and theory throughout the course.


There are 17 modules, one of which is externally marked. The course includes practical installation skills and Inspection, Testing and Certification of Domestic Electrical Installations.


  1. Applicable Building Regulations for domestic electrical installations

  2. Electrical safety legislation, regulations, standards & terminology

  3. Pre-work survey/ inspection

  4. Safe isolation procedures

  5. Identifying unsafe electrical situations

  6. Earthing and bonding requirements

  7. Electrical test procedures

  8. Selecting Domestic Electrical cable and components

  9. Installing and replacing electrical components

  10. Checking the correct and safe operation of installed electrical components

  11. Recording of electrical test results and completing certificates

  12. Installing and/or re-routing domestic electrical cables

  13. Special locations

  14. Understanding new domestic electrical circuit requirements

  15. Installing domestic lighting circuits

  16. Maintaining domestic electrical circuit requirements

  17. Basic understanding of 3 phase supplies
