Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)

This qualification is a recommendation for Technicians and others within premises who have responsibility for testing portable equipment.


  1. The course is delivered as a one day session.

  2. The duration of the course is 8 hours and the delivery of the course may be tailored to meet the clients' requirements.


Aimed at all those involved in the testing of portable equipment, the course is designed to familiarise them with the Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Practical methods of equipment testing are carried out during the course.


  1. Candidates are required to sit a one hour, 30 item multi-choice examination, after the course.

  2. There is also a practical assessment of testing procedures during the day of the course.


The course is based upon the latest editions of the Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Costs include the examination entry fees.
